The devotion to Maria Bambina (in the city of Milan) can be traced back to 1007, the year in which the church of Santa Maria Fulcorina was dedicated to the "mystery of the Nativity of Mary." The church over time advanced to Cathedral of Milan (Saint Mary Major) to which in 1251 Pope Innocent IV granted in perpetuity a plenary indulgence for those who visit the Cathedral of Milan on the feast day of Mary's Nativity (September 8). From this time on Mary's birthday was celebrated with great solemnity. A new and more beautiful church was built whose high altar was consecrated in 1418 by Pope Martin V; the present Dome was consecrated more than one hundred years later by St. Charles Borromeo in 1572 dedicating it officially to the Birth of Mary. Over the main entrance of the cathedral are the words in bronze letters: Mariae Nascenti, which can be roughly translated as 'to the Infant Mary'.

In the mid 1800's Letaille Printing House, a Parisian lace holy card printer released a series of holy cards (Divine Pilot) that were the inspiration of many of the faithful. (Even our dear Saint Therese of Lisieux)

This series was so respected for it's teaching that even The Protestant Sunday School Association of New York released a book that featured only 10 of the holy cards from the series. It has been unknown for awhile as to how many are actually in this series.

After nearly a decade of research and careful communication with other collectors and antique art dealers from all over the world, our family is believed to be the only source at this time who owns the collection of 13 in it's entirety. (Though we are always looking for another.) We are pleased to present to the faithful for the first time in history, the entire collection of the Divine Pilot holy card series in this magazine issue of Immagini Sacre.

These are the very same images that were the spiritual formation of Saint Therese of Lisieux.
